Chapter Nine

I stare after Cole for an indeterminable amount of time. I can’t believe I was that stupid. I just ruined everything. Now he’s just going to see me as some diseased whore, and even if I wanted to make some sort of a future with him, I blew it.

I move inside and get dressed. I collect the clothes I arrived in, but the things I purchased are still in Cole’s bike. I contemplate calling Prez or Carla to come and get me, but decide against it. That would mean I’d have to tell them what’s going on between me and Cole, and I don’t know what that means in a motorcycle club. All I know, is there are rules and codes that everyone has to follow. I just haven’t been here long enough to learn what they all are.

Instead, I call a cab company and ask to get picked up, only to be told they don’t service our area. “Fucking back water country towns,” I grumble to myself, deciding my only option is to walk. I pull up Google maps and type in my father’s address to get the directions to his house reasoning that it’s dark. No one will see me walking, and if I hear any engines, I’ll hide behind a tree. I’ll be fine.

Stepping outside into the quiet of the night, I embark on my long walk home. My heavy boots make my legs tired as I drag them through the rough ground on the side of the road. My walk takes almost an hour, and is thankfully uneventful. That is, until I arrive at my parent’s.

“Found you,” Liam says, as he leans against the bonnet of his black Chrysler. It’s so dark and shiny that it looks like it belongs to the Special Forces or something.

My throat constricts in both fear and surprise. “I’m not going back with you,” I say, keeping my distance. “My father won’t let you take me.”

“Your father isn’t here. But don’t worry. I’m not going to take you now.” He walks toward me with confident strides as he grins that cocky grin of his on only one side of his face.

“What do you mean?”

He stops in front of me, only a hair’s breadth away from my face, and I stop breathing. “Consider this a warning,” he whispers, his sickly sweet breath washing over me. I turn my head away, not wanting to look at him. He grips my face and licks it slowly upward, before stopping and whispering in my ear. “I know where you are. You have one week to sort your shit out and get back to me before I unleash hell upon your father’s little gang. Do you understand me?”

“What will you do?” I ask in a whisper, my body quaking with fear. I don’t want to go back. Please don’t make me go back.

“You’re not the only one who has connections with bikers, and my bikers aren’t friends with your bikers.”

“You’re going to provoke a war?”

“If that’s what it takes.
